YOUR CREATIVE OASIS
Tips & tricks to bring art into your life
Created with love and gratitude for the people and places that shape us.From the beginning, this series of work felt emotionally significant. I've been trying to put it into words for ages, but it's impossible to clearly articulate the tangle of recollections and emotions behind each piece. Harder still to explain how and why these recollections are fundamental to who I am. I suppose if I were to try to define this series neatly, I'd say it's about the love and immense gratitude I feel for my family, the land and most importantly, memories -- for allowing us to revisit the people, places and moments we cherish most. But it's about so much more than that... It's about honoring my grandpa, whose own artistic journey has inspired mine and who remains the person I think of most when I paint.
It's about appreciating all I got to experience as a child, and the role my family played in creating those experiences. It's about my love of the pacific ocean and the power it has to inspire. It's about all those snippets of childhood memories that are so strong and bring comfort on days I feel low: grandpa in his studio, grandma blow-drying my hair, teatime on sandy beaches, peeling the bark off arbutus trees, poker on the sailboat, staring out at the ocean, hoping for orcas, rocky hikes & collecting moss, salty ocean spray in my face, blackberry picking at the school, fast boat rides, grandpa's sketchbooks, soft green carpet between my toes, the marina at night, breakfast on the deck, bocce ball on damp grass, sitting on the steps watching the tide roll in, the smell of ocean air... You will obviously experience these pieces differently than me. And although you won't see the same things I see, it's my hope that you will feel the same things I feel: love, warmth, peace & gratitude. Check out the series here <3 If you're interested in purchasing a piece from the series, contact me.
